Jim Mackaness
Jim Mackaness joined FLG in 2019. Jim is a senior level executive with extensive hands-on experience in management, business leadership and working with public and private investor communities. With over 20 years of experience as both a Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, Jim has an established record of success in growing enterprise value in both healthcare and high-tech industries.
Jim brings exceptional leadership and team building abilities. He’s adept at conceptualizing and problem solving with a pragmatic get-things-done attitude, while exercising a high degree of discretion, mature judgment, and tact in handling issues of a sensitive nature. As a skilled negotiator he negotiated successful exits in healthcare and high-tech industries (to Stryker Corporation and Cisco Systems, respectively) generating over $500M in value realization and lead multiple fund-raising initiatives and activities including Public Offerings, At The Market Offerings (ATMs), Private Placements and Debt Financings.
Jim leverages his commercial acumen to be a strong strategic business partner who owns the financial model and engages respectively and assertively to effect data-driven innovation and process improvement. He is a veteran people manager with experience in recruiting, mentoring and running finance, accounting, investor relations, human resources, legal, IT support, and business intelligence departments.
Prior to joining FLG, Jim worked in the healthcare sector as CFO at Invuity, Inc. (NASDAQ: IVTY), a medical technology company bought by Stryker Corporation, and COO / CFO at IRIDEX Corporation (NASDAQ: IRIX), a laser based medical systems company treating glaucoma and retinal diseases. Jim also has experience in the high-tech sector, working as CFO at NextHop Technologies Inc., an NEA-backed startup focused on licensing network software to OEMs (HP, Nortel, 3Com, etc.) and InfoGear, a software client server platform for Internet Appliances (the creators of the original iPhone), which was acquired by Cisco Systems. While at Cisco, Jim was responsible for business development for the managed appliances and services business unit.
Jim began his career in London at Ernst & Young before transferring to San Jose. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has an honors degree in Psychology from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
